Morning all! We are now into day three of my two-book Kindle free promo and yesterday saw some very interesting results…
Before you get too excited, this is for one category (Women’s Fiction), not the whole free Kindle charts!
As with Monday, I checked the figures a few times during the day and kept track of my place in the Amazon rankings.
It was a slow start as I didn’t do anything extra with regards promotions until the afternoon… and I was awaiting the promo I’d paid for with Ereader News Today, which was due to go live US-time.
I decided I would put the word out via some Facebook groups and pages, to try and drum up a bit more interest. As mentioned on Monday’s post I have a spreadsheet with these groups on, and am happy to share this. I am just making some notes while I work through this promotion, so I can share the most recent version.
By 7.45pm, downloads of Writing the Town Read had increased to 50 but Looking Past had started to soar, with 264 free downloads. There is no doubt that a very large majority of these had come through Ereader News Today. By 12.30am there had been 68 downloads of Writing the Town Read and… wait for it… 1,230 of Looking Past!
I use bit.ly to generate urls, and it allows me to see how many times those links were clicked, and where those clicks came from. The below graphic shows the clicks on the link I shared for Writing the Town Read. It looks like the Facebook postings have done some good – from a combination of my Katharine E. Smith on facebook page, Heddon Publishing page, the paid promotion and the postings I did yesterday afternoon.
As I write this, Looking Past is #113 in the Free Kindle chart on Amazon.com, but unfortunately I’m expecting downloads to decrease today so I don’t think I am destined for the top 100. However, I have a new promotion which is set to go live with Digital Book Today, for Writing the Town Read: this will run for the next three days. I have not used the Digital Book Today paid-for service before so I’m not sure what to expect but so far I’ve been impressed the the customer service and am looking forward to seeing what happens.
Let’s see what today brings…
